Hatch Crushed Red Pepper

Pizza never tasted so good as when you sprinkle some Hatch Valley Crushed Red Chile Pepper flakes on it!

Crushed red pepper is one of the commonly used spices that can make food appealing. Our red pepper flakes start with flavorful Hatch Valley red chile peppers that are hot dried. The flakes are processed at the local mill and packaged for your tasting pleasure. These flakes are hot so you may not need a lot.

The crushed pepper flakes have a hot, smoky flavor. You might notice the yellow seeds. These seeds add heat to the spice and if you are not so sure of the flavor, use these flakes in small quantities and add more if required.  A half teaspoon of crushed red pepper is about equal to a small dried chili pepper.

Suggested Uses: Use in chiles, stews, enchilada or chile sauces, roasts, soups, and beef dishes.The peppers can also be sprinkled on most italian foods such as spaghetti, sausage dishes, salads, chowders, gumbos or mix in with salt for a unique seasoning flavor. Consider adding to pork brines and marinades; fry with garlic in oil to start pasta sauces; simmer with cinnamon sticks and cloves into beef stew; and of course, sprinkle on piping-hot pizza.

Storage Suggestions: Like most spice, crushed red peppers should be stored in air tight containers placed in an cool dark place. For maximum freshness, store excess powder in a plastic airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer. Keep a shaker or small container with the rest of your spices for convenience.
